What does a nozzle swivel do?
A swivel sits between the hose and the nozzle and allows the nozzle to rotate freely without twisting the hose. That prevents the hose kinking and, more importantly, stops the twisting force being transferred to the crimped fitting.
Fitting failures at the nozzle end are usually caused by repeated twisting, so a swivel materially extends hose life.
What is a breakaway coupling for?
It separates cleanly if a vehicle drives off with the nozzle still in the tank, sealing both sides so fuel is not lost and the dispenser is not pulled over.
Drive-offs are more common than people expect on busy commercial fuel points, and a breakaway costs far less than the pump it protects.
Do I need a nozzle holster?
It is a small item with a disproportionate effect. A holster keeps the nozzle off the ground so grit does not enter the spout, catches residual drips, and stops the nozzle being the thing that drags the hose off a reel.
Contamination entering through a nozzle left lying on the yard ends up in the vehicle being filled.
What are anti-splash and extended spouts for?
Anti-splash spouts reduce splash-back during filling, which improves the reliability of automatic shut-off and reduces spillage. Extended and flexible spouts reach awkward fill necks on plant and agricultural machinery.
Magnetic-collar spouts are specific to AdBlue and engage the vehicle's DEF fill neck.
Can I replace just the spout rather than the whole nozzle?
On many models, yes — spouts are a wear item and are commonly available as spares. Replacing the spout is far cheaper than the nozzle.
If the auto shut-off mechanism itself has become unreliable, that is not a spout problem and the nozzle should be replaced.
Are AdBlue nozzle accessories interchangeable with fuel ones?
No. AdBlue accessories must be stainless steel or compatible polymer throughout. Brass and aluminium corrode in urea solution and any fuel residue contaminates the AdBlue.
Keep the two sets physically separate and ideally colour-coded, because a mistake here damages the vehicle's emissions system.
