What is included in a diesel pump kit?
Typically the pump, a delivery hose, a nozzle, and the fittings and suction assembly needed to connect to the tank. Better kits include a filter and a flow meter.
Buying as a kit matters because the components are matched — the hose bore, nozzle flow rating and pump output are chosen to work together rather than throttling each other.
Which voltage should I choose?
12V for vehicle-mounted and remote use with no mains supply. 24V for HGV and plant applications. 110V for construction sites on reduced-voltage supply. 230V for fixed yard and depot installations, which is the most common choice.
400V three-phase is used where high flow rates are needed for bulk transfer.
What flow rate do I need?
Match it to what you are filling. Cars, vans and small plant are well served by 40 to 60 litres per minute. HGVs and larger plant benefit from 70 to 90. Bulk transfer between tanks warrants 100 plus.
Higher flow is not always better — a high-flow nozzle into a small fill neck triggers constant auto shut-off and slows the job down.
Do I need a meter?
If you are recording usage, recharging fuel to jobs or departments, or monitoring for losses, yes. A mechanical meter is adequate for totalising; a digital meter gives batch totals and better accuracy.
If fuel use needs to be attributed to individual vehicles or drivers, a full fuel management system is the better answer than a meter alone.
Can a diesel pump kit be used for AdBlue?
No. AdBlue corrodes the brass and aluminium components used in diesel pumps, and hydrocarbon residue will contaminate the AdBlue and damage the vehicle's SCR system.
AdBlue requires dedicated stainless steel and plastic equipment, kept entirely separate from fuel equipment.
How is the pump mounted?
Kits are supplied for tank-top mounting, wall mounting or bracket mounting depending on the model. Suction-side pumps must be sited within their rated suction lift of the fuel level.
Suction lift is the specification most often overlooked — a pump mounted too high above the tank outlet will struggle to prime and will cavitate in use.
